Great start. Rick spoke right to our hearts and applied the Word to our lives. The music lifted our hearts up toward God. This is going to be great.

One of the most impactful opening sessions that I have ever been a part of. I can't wait to share this with my team of worship leaders!

Loved it! Rick hit it right between the eyes.

The worship music and worship talk talk (!) from the first session did a great work of preparing us all for this session of worship. Loved it. Ministered to me heart and drew me closer to God.

The first session was worth the ticket price alone...I was challenged, challenged, and challenged to be the generous, integral, and humble leader God wants me to be.

I agree with James, excellent time of not only hearing from RW and BO, but also I enjoyed the marry-go-round of worship leaders. Ministered effectively!

Great general sessions today! Rick, thank you for being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and following His guidance. It felt very raw, real and unrehearsed. It was also extremely powerful and much needed! Music has been great. I love Tim Hughes--especially "Consuming Fire." I totally resonate with "there must be something more…" My church needs the Holy Spirit to fall on it (and me!) in a big way!

the urban poets.....WOW!!!

Truth resonates. Irwin's message intertwined in the art of the dance and dialogue resonated. It lingered. It pushed you just beyond where you were recently comfortable. It had God all over it. I'd take second helpings of that in a worship service every time...

McManus, Arcos, and the Mosaic team were awesome this morning.

I thought it was a great example of what Randy Elrod talked about in the byte-sized entertainment breakout, for those of you who were there.

Don't get me wrong, the Urban Poets were very entertaining, but Irwin is too gifted a speaker to not get a full hour of his wisdom and inspiration spread over the hearts at this conference.

Thank you for the sacrifice that you have all made to bring this conference together. I know that it is a labor of love and dedication to Christ that moves each of you to serve the larger church body. So, yeah, I'm supposed to leave a comment, well how about this...you need to hand out some Chapstick (with some kind of sun protection) in your Chick-fil-A bags because by the end of the conference "my lips hurt real bad!" Seriously thank you, your church, and your families for being who you are as servant leaders.

Shalom,

I loved the conference thus far,yet I have a few problems with Erwin McManus's sermon. He was a wonderful modivational speaker, but his claims about Solomon were inaccurate. He said that Solomon was wrong in Ecclesiastes when he said,"There is nothing new under the sun." McManus also stated that Solomon was wrong because God created new things.
There are several problems with this argument.First, at the core of what McManus is saying is that the Bible is wrong but God is right. This is not only a contridiction, it is also very much untrue. Also, Solomon was right when he said that there was nothing new under the sun. Because we are sinful beings and we are in utter godless depravity by ourselves; it is impossible to create something new and something beautiful. On our own strength, we can do nothing. God can do a wonderful new work, but through us there is no new thing under the sun. Besides this sermon, I love this conference and I'm looking forward to coming next year.

This conference has been an incredible breath of fresh air for me. I have loved every general session. Every speaker, every performer, every special has been outstanding and life giving!

The only wierd moment for me, was the "spontaneous" singing of "falling in love with Jesus" with the purple lady. That was so random! What was that?

Besides that I have been fulfilled and inspired and ministered to beyond my expectations. Thank you to your amazing staff!

@anonymous: I heard from a reliable source that her name was "Baby" (possibly not spelled that way) and she is a Brazilian pop star.

Did anyone think that Kay Warren missed the mark with her "sermon"?
I don't mean to be ugly and obviously she has more skins on the wall than me, but I just did not think that her presentation fit in with the spirit of the conference at all.

I have been to a lot of worship conferences and in my opinion this one is by far the best. I really appreciate the way that all the presenters are confident and humble. I get the sense that they do not think they are better than me, and that we are all partners in the journey of seeking God and being better worshipers and leaders.

Kay did not come across that way. She came out with a canned sermon that sounded rehearsed and was full of clichés. It seemed like she was talking AT us and not TO us. Sort of like a Sunday morning sermon in a traditional service. She even paused for applause after a good point. No one applauded.

When she said "If you are not willing to literally die for Jesus, than you should not call yourself a follower of Christ and you should be a plumber instead of leading worship..." First of all, I felt really bad for anyone who may have actually been a plumber and had used their vacation to come to this conference because they are on the worship team or a bi-vocational worship pastor. Secondly, while that is indeed a place in our faith that we should all strive for, the reality is that not all Christians are there yet. I am not talking about using cliché in a religious crowd; I'm talking about authentic reality.

Part of effective communication is knowing you’re listening audience and understanding the context of the setting. It was sort of like a Thursday night at youth camp message. Like I've got on more chance to scare them in to a commitment or something. While the same message may have been very effective in a different setting, it seemed a bit out of place to me and those sitting around me.

Please understand that this opinion is about this particular presentation, not the person of Kay Warren. She is awesome and has done more good for the Kingdom of God than I will probably ever do. I am excited about the new AIDS foundation. This particular message just seemed incongruent with the spirit and attitude rest of the speakers at the conference.

Thanks for another great conference and keep up the good work. See you next year!

I agree with the comments about Kay's session. I came away feeling like someone had been shaking their finger at me the whole time. We all have our crosses to bear, each area is different for sure. The hand cannot say to the foot "I am doing much more than you because I am feeding the poor", when the foot is the one who has walked the mile in the other persons shoes in compassion and empathized beside them daily.

No offense to you Kay, really. I just think a conference full of Worship Leaders and Pastors needs a different kind of talk. You were kind of preaching to the choir, and plumbers.

Kay, it takes an awful lot of preparation to get up and speak, travel, do all that you do. It takes a lot out of you personally. Your ministry is awesome! I'm glad you are doing what you are doing. We are all in this together, just try to remember that.

I loved the general sessions! My only suggestion would be, to cut out the 2nd am session in order to take more breakout classes. Or maybe lenghten the 1st one by 1/2 hour and then go to breakout classes.
Also, loved the variety of "stuff" in the 2nd, but was very glad to have had the 1st for deeper worship time. There's no greater way to start the day than to come before God and participate in total, praise and adoration for who He is and what He's done.
Thanks for all the hard work you all put into this conference, it made a difference for me.
The absolute best part about the worship, for me anyway, was that I was able to have this time of refreshing and be ministered to, instead of having to worry about the technicalities of the service like we normally do every Sunday.
Thanks again, Sheila C.

on the first day that we got there...a woman sang "my redeemer lives." can anyone tell me who she is? Her voice was amazing and it sounded just like the actual recording of the song.

@Lightmanx5
Yes, she is known as Baby Do Brasil in Brazil.

Unknown said...

Huh? No...she was a blonde-haired lady. She sang Nicole Mullen's - My Redeemer Lives. Does anyone know who she was? The woman that sang the first day we got there on Tuesday. She sang before Brenton Brown and Matt Maher.

Her name is Dawn Wright- she is one of our soloists here at Saddleback. Unfortunately she doesn't have a CD... yet!
